Florid

Jamal, 23, lives with schizophrenia in supported housing in London. Lonely and frustrated, he is haunted by the voice of a little girl. His only relief comes from smoking weed and writing music.

When Keisha moves into the block, Jamal is smitten only to be crushed when her drug-dealing ‘boyfriend’ turns up. He stops taking his meds, blaming them for his inadequacies. Growing increasingly unstable, long-buried traumas resurface. Spurred on by the voice of his favourite rapper, Jamal becomes psychotic. Recovering on a psychiatric ward, he finally confronts his mother’s death and a friend helps him embrace his voices. Enrolling in a music therapy program he fulfils his dream of performing in public.
